Teacher Access
Teachers can now have their own School Portal login to view reports for their own students.
Overview
Teachers can now have their own School Portal login. A school administrator sends the invite; the teacher creates an account, and from there can view reports for their own students.
To start, teacher accounts are focused on reporting. Teachers do not see school-wide data and they cannot invite or manage other users. This is the first version of teacher access, and we expect it to grow over time.

Part 1: For School Administrators
Finding Your Teachers
Open the Invitations page from the side navigation in School Portal. Your teachers are already listed there. The list is pulled from your school information system, so you do not need to add anyone by hand. Your job is to send invites and revoke access when someone no longer needs it.

The Invitations page does not yet have filtering or sorting, so at a larger school, you may need to scroll to find the teacher you want.
Who Should Get a Teacher Account
Teacher accounts are for classroom teachers who need to see their own students.
If someone needs school-wide visibility, such as a literacy coach, they should have a school administrator account instead. A teacher account would give them less access, not more.
Inviting a Teacher
- Find the teacher on the invitations page.
- Send the invite using the action next to their name. Their status changes to ‘Pending’.
- The teacher receives an email invitation right away. The email shows your name as the sender, so let your teachers know to look for it under your name, rather than Ignite Reading.
- Track the status in the table. Once a teacher completes sign-up, their status changes to accepted.

You cannot send a second invite to a teacher who is already ‘Pending’. If a teacher says they never received an invitation, see the troubleshooting section below rather than trying to invite them again.
Removing Access
If a teacher leaves your school or no longer needs access, you can revoke it from the Invitations page.
- Find the teacher in the table and select Remove.
- Confirm in the dialog that appears.
- The teacher’s status returns to ‘Not Invited’. They stay on your list, so you can invite them again later if needed.
Removing access takes effect immediately. If the teacher is signed in at the time, they will be logged out the next time they take an action in the portal.
School administrators at your school can invite and revoke teachers. If you run into trouble, reach out to us, and we can help, including sending an invite on your behalf.
What Teachers Will and Will Not See
Teachers see reporting only for their students. They do not see other teachers’ students or school- or district-level data.
Students are tied to teachers through the assignments you make during rostering. If a teacher tells you a student is missing from their view, check how that student is rostered rather than on the teacher’s account, since the roster determines what they see.
Part 2: For Teachers
Setting up Your Account
- Look for your invitation email. Your school administrator will send you an invite. The email will show their name as the sender, so check for their name when searching your inbox. If you don’t see it, check your spam or junk folder.
- Follow the link and create your account. Select the link in the email and complete the sign-up steps. This is the same sign-up form school administrators use, so it may look familiar if you’ve seen a colleague go through it.
- Log in. Once your account is created, you can sign in to the portal any time at schools.ignite-reading.com
What You’ll See
When you log in, you’ll land on your reports. These cover your own students.
If you teach more than one class or work across more than one school, your reports work the same way. You’ll see all of your students in one place rather than switching between views.
What’s Not Available to You
Teacher accounts are focused on reporting for now, so the following things aren’t part of your access:
- Other teachers’ students
- School-wide or district-level reporting
- Student Information Review (Rostering)
- User Management Tools
If you follow a link to one of these areas, the portal will take you back to your reports. That’s expected, and nothing is wrong with your account.
Troubleshooting
I never got an invitation email.
Check your spam folder and search for your school administrator’s name, not Ignite Reading. If it still isn’t there, let your admin know they can follow up with us. They won’t be able to simply resend it, so it’s worth telling them rather than waiting.
My administrator says I’m not on their list.
The teacher list comes from your school’s information system. Your administrator can follow up to get you added.
A student is missing from my reports.
Your reports are based on how students were assigned to you during rostering. Reach out to your school administrator, since they manage those assignments and can get them corrected.
I keep being sent back to my reports page.
That means you tried to open a part of the school portal that isn’t included with teacher access. Your reports page is your home base.
I got an error message and was logged out.
Your access may have been removed. Check with your school administrator.
